Interesting Tidbit: MetLife to Begin Selling Hybrid Annuities
MetLife just announced it’s going to begin selling hybrid annuities. What a coincidence! That’s what we focus on here are Safe Harbor. We’ll take that as a compliment. In other news, we hear that investors are now switching their mutual funds into hybrid annuities.
The Cost of Securities
We can never say too much about costs. Over your working career, securities costs can take a large chunk out of your earnings even if you’re not making money. You pay up to 5.75% for your mutual funds and another 2–3% per annum in various fees. On top of that, every year you have to sell your stocks to get an income. All the while you have market risk, and if you have to selling in a down market will deplete your portfolio too quickly. Now look at hybrid annuities. You pay just 0.95% for guaranteed lifetime income — plus health care doubler and no market risk. What do you think is the better deal?
